Way Of Seeing Reflection

Film and photography has changed the way art is produced, shared, and seen. Affecting art that was done hundreds of years before this technology was invented. Art can now be reproduced cheaply and any size, it can easily be shared all across the country. Art no longer only has just one place as it use to but can now be seen and taken anywhere, although it will not be the original. Technology has made art sharing much easier but it can also take away from the meaning. Such as zooming in or out of a painting to show more or less detail, and this can completely change meaning.  But the environment the art is seen and kept in also has many effects on how the viewer perceives the art. It can cause the viewer to affected by the piece and then how they feel about it.

Spencer Museum Visit Reflection

Our class field trip to the Spencer Museum I thought was very helpful and gave more ideas for this photo collage project. I especially liked looking at the photos and artwork that was brought out for us to look at because most were so relatable to our project. Many of them were very creative, but several of them went farther than we could take our project such as editing with Photoshop and color. But they were still able to open my eyes and help me think outside the box with my own collage. Also looking at other pieces in the museum, especially the sculpture we looked at as a class, to see how the piece was put together and how it is important to realize that how art is put together has much to do with the how the final piece turns out. I was very appreciative of being able to visit the museum as a class.

Photography Changes Everything Reflection

Photography has tried to be defined for years, but coming up with a description or definition has not been achieved quite yet. Too many opinions come into play when was is and is not photography is confronted.  Photography today is rapidly evolving, making the definition harder to identify. Camera use to be the only way to take photos but not with camera phones, tablets, iPads, laptops, etc. the possibilities are endless. So focusing more on how photography works and makes us feel and see, seems better and more correct than what it is to work towards a definition. Photography can make the view feel and see whatever the photographer may want them to, and how to accomplish this has more to do with photography than just defining what it is. Six different categories were used to define photography after looking at results from research done by everyday people. The categories are 1) photography changes what we want, 2) photography changes what we see, 3) photography changes who we are, 4) photography changes what we do, 5) photography changes where we go, and 6) photography changes what we remember. Photography influences so many aspects of our every day lives that although these categories may seem vague, almost anyone can relate to them somehow, maybe without realizing at first. But photography is constantly evolving; therefore defining it will continue to be a challenge.

Photography Collage Project Description

The main objective to this project is to create a photo collage representing the passing of time of a person or location and then the relationship between time and the space or person photographed. Subject matter was very vague, with much room for creativity and open-mindedness. Distortion of the image with the photos is encouraged, but connections of specific lines and forms are vital to make the collage flow together. There was a requirement of 75 pictures minimum as a final result, and no digital editing of the photos were allowed. The recommendation was to keep all pictures the same size and for the size to be 4x6. The collage then had to be mounted on something that would compliment the collage, the mount would be almost as important as the collage itself being that the mount could make or break the presentation of the project.

On Photography Reflection

Photography is one of the newest forms of art and one of the most life changing of them all. It is one of the most popular forms of art now, used by almost anyone and everyone. Photography is a way to capture real life while still altering and setting a mood or relaying a message. Although they are captured on a flat, sometimes small and glossy, surface. This in comparison to painting seems to take away from the photographs slightly, because they are able, at times, to show more depth. They have also developed into having so many different uses in almost any field of study or work. Photographs mean the most when meaning is given to them, because they are statements about reality and can be so life-like they take on so much meaning to every day life as well as the picture itself.

Masters of Illusion Relfection

The artists of the Renaissance created several of the techniques used by filmmakers and photographers today to create an illusion to the eye. They use these basic skills every day that we take for granted, such as linear perspective, which adds depth and perspective to an image, forever changing how paintings were crafted along with architecture, and movies and photos today. Another technique created was systematic perspective, using octagons to create different complicated shapes out of perspective. Vanishing and multi-vanishing point perspective, having a point or multiple point where the linear perspective lines match up to give the correct perspective. There was also much research done by artists such as Da Vinici about how light reflects and how it enters the eye rather than radiates around it, with many studies about light and shadow as well. Rules with light and shadow were also developed at this time. Starting with the basics of drawing and shading a sphere and then were applied to more difficult objects such as people. This also led to atmospheric perspective, first explored by Michelangelo, stating the deeper or farther away the more blue and hazier the image becomes. Anamorphic art was also mastered during the Renaissance, which is looking at an image at al angle to be able to see the true image. Angled perspective, especially used by filmmakers today, was also used at this time and caused very dramatic results.
