IDEO Deep Dive Video Reflection

Seeing real people in the design world who really love their jobs and are good at their jobs is very inspiring. So before I even saw the final project of this design team, I already knew I was going to like this video.
Watching their design process was good encouragement to me for this project. They seemed very enthusiastic throughout the whole thing, which I think showed in the end with their final object. I love how they are constantly thinking outside the box, and coming up with crazy ideas and saying them, no matter how crazy they are. Using that in our redesign process helped us come up with some good ideas I think. Group brainstorming I believe also is more accomplishing than individually and they also showed that in the video.
The final shopping cart design was absolutely amazing. They had so many creative ideas that are much needed to make shopping carts better.  I wish more stores would have used those. Very good idea.

The Writer's Toolbox Summary

The Writer’s Toolbox was very helpful for brainstorming ideas, especially useful for brainstorming for our “Make It Better” project right now. The Concept Maps and Freewriting were both terms I had never heard of and I think both will be help provoke creativity. Concept Maps are similar to Mind Maps except you start with a general term and work down to more specific characteristics and ideas. Freewriting it just writing down all eh thoughts you have, even ones you don’t, just anything you can think of constantly for a certain amount of time. I have already used the Mind Maps and Word Lists, Mind Maps is just starting with an idea or concept and branching off ideas from it, then Word Lists are just making a list of random things you think of when thinking of your topic. All of these seem very helpful and will encouragement out-of-the-box thinking.

I really love this poster and I feel it works well, design wise, for what our poster project is all about. The design is very simple and has the geometric style that most of us are going for. I love the color themes as well. Very cute and retro.

Color Police

I also found this ad in the same magazine as the other and I really liked the color usage in this one. They used a limited palate, and keeping the same chroma and and almost hue but having different values and it really ties it all together on the black background and really makes it stand out. Really love how this looks.

Color Police

I found this ad in a magazine and at first glance it looks like a great picture. But then you realize that the  picture is not great because of the clothes the model is advertising but because the background has so much going on. I chose this for my bad color Color Police pictures. The background even though it is blurred is not good for the product being advertised. They should have keyed a color or made the whole background black and white because when looking at this picture the eye automatically becomes drawn to the red objects on the other side of the picture rather than the clothes she is wearing. So to me this was just a bad color choice on this companies part.

5 Simple Items with Good Design: Number 3, 4, & 5

Number 3, 4, & 5: Satchel Purse, Laptop, Febreze bottle

Satchel purses are still a hot trend right now, big and small, and this size of satchel is perfect. It may look small but it holds much more than one would think. Not only does it have a couple small pockets on the inside, perfect for phone or chapstick or lip stick, it has two large pockets outside on either side. It doesn't get too heavy and is easy to carry around everywhere. And it is adorable, all over tan but with a little color to make it pop. Love it!

Apple products are becoming very popular these days, from their iPhones to the MacBook Pros. Their products are usually very fast and the newest technology. In this case I love this design because there is so much space on it but yet it is still fairly small and lightweight. They are also popular because they are so easy to personalize. There are so many different types of covers for all their products, whether someone wants to protect or just make it more their own. I personally have a red plastic cover on the outside with a rubber cover over the keyboard. So much you can do with these laptops!

This Febreze bottle has a design I think is fairly new. I think it is a more sleek look than before and isn't the ugly bottle as usually. Each scent has a different color and design on the label. I also really like the all the different orange values on it. It is definitely easier to look at than they use to be. It also seem small and easier to slide into place instead of a boxy shape.

5 Simple Items with Good Design: Number 2

Number 2:
I bought this mirror not to long ago for about $7.00 without putting too much thought into it, just that I needed a desk mirror. When I actually started to use it, it turned out to be a great buy! The mirror is double sided and zooms in 3x on the other side. It is small and sleek but still big enough for me to use to get ready in the mornings. It also has a convenient tray at the bottom that can hold small things, such as what I demonstrated with my dime and bobby pins. Very stylish and useful at the same time. Such a great buy!
